Information and records are important government assets which support planning and service delivery. Good information and records will help reduce risks for the government and other bodies. By the PRAAD Act 1997 Act 535, the Department is handed the oversight responsibility of managing all Public Records. As part of the functions, the Department is to provide the necessary guidelines for capacity building for the Records Class and to ensure that Records officers/managers in the public service follow good recordkeeping practices. Through continuous research, training courses are being designed and reviewed to meet the changing needs of the records management regime in Ghana.
The Department thus aims at :
Building the needed human resource capacity so that records staff have the knowledge and skills to meet their responsibilities for managing records.
Establish appropriate records management training programs needed to equip staff in the public service to be able to create, use and manage records in accordance with the laid down standard procedures and within all the available legal frameworks.
Institute mechanisms for institutional collaboration on staff training needs in the public service.
